Job Description:
Summary: The Manufacturing Design Engineer will support the
production processes of the MTR membrane element manufacturing
organization. -The Manufacturing Design Engineer will develop,
implement, and continually improve the manufacturing equipment and
processes used for manufacturing membranes and modules. This
includes assessing a project through root cause analysis if
necessary, brainstorming solutions and selecting the best option
(in collaboration with the Senior MFG Engineer and end users),
submitting a detailed design and cost proposal, fabricating
components (or having them fabricated), and implementing the final
solution into production equipment with minimal downtime and
following through with testing to confirm success and
documentation/training of manufacturing operators. The
Manufacturing Design Engineer will be responsible for entire
projects on roll-to-roll web handling and assembly-type production
equipment, including the electromechanical function and design of
control circuits, PLC programming, and instrumentation associated
with that equipment. -Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- - - - - - - - -Works with equipment operators to determine issues
and opportunities for improvement. - - - - - - - - -Designs and
implements solutions to problems following Change Management
protocol and documentation requirements. - - - - - - - - -Reads and
creates electrical one-line drawings, fabrication/assembly
drawings, and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). - - -
- - - - - -Utilizes simulation (FEA) to evaluate designs. - - - - -
- - - -Prepares manufacturing documentation and trains operators on
new and old processes/equipment, as necessary. - - - - - - - -
-Prepares presentations and summaries of projects and experiments
to document progress and communicate results - - - - - - - -
-Assists in the development and maintenance of, and compliance to,
engineering standards for manufacturing areas. - - - - - - - -
-Liaising with R&D to support efforts on the development of new
processes and product scale-ups. - - - - - - - - -Works with
regulatory bodies to ensure safety, environmental, and design
standards are met for manufacturing processes, especially Class 1
Division 2 Flammable Environment explosion proof equipment
requirements.Other Job Duties:
Required Skills and Experience:
- - - - - - - - -Demonstrable knowledge of mechanical,
manufacturing, and process engineering principles, standards, and
practices. - - - - - - - - -Working knowledge of a wide range of
manufacturing technologies, including standard assembly operations,
roll-to-roll material handling, and coating/drying operations. - -
- - - - - - -Excels in 3D Modeling and Simulation (SolidWorks &
SolidWorks FEA Simulation or similar). - - - - - - - - -Able to
produce 2D fabrication drawings with valid tolerancing. - - - - - -
- - -Able to produce P&ID drawings and motor controls wiring
diagrams for equipment and processes. - - - - - - - - -Programming
experience with PLCs (Allen Bradly or similar). - - - - - - - -
-Critical thinking skills. - - - - - - - - -Project management. - -
- - - - - - -Able to communicate technical ideas to technical and
non-technical audiences at all levels (from management to
operators). - - - - - - - - -Able to perform and direct others in
basic electromechanical assembly, including plumbing/piping and
electrical wiring.

statistical analysis, 3D design, and word processing. -
