Job Description Job Description About the Role: As a Speech
Therapist within the Health Care and Social Assistance industry,
you will play a critical role in assessing, diagnosing, and
treating individuals with speech, language, communication, and
swallowing disorders. Your work will primarily focus on patients in
skilled nursing facilities, helping them regain or improve their
communication abilities and overall quality of life. You will
collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including
physicians, nurses, and occupational therapists to develop
personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique
needs. Through evidence-based speech therapy techniques, you will
support patients in overcoming challenges related to speech and
language impairments caused by injury, illness, or developmental
conditions. Ultimately, your efforts will contribute to enhancing
patient outcomes and promoting independence in daily communication
and swallowing functions. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree
in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program. Valid
state license or certification to practice as a Speech-Language
Pathologist. Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or equivalent.
Experience working in a skilled nursing facility or similar
healthcare setting. Strong knowledge of speech therapy techniques
and patient care protocols. Preferred Qualifications: Experience
with a diverse patient population including post-acute care
patients. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and
documentation software. Additional certifications related to
swallowing disorders or cognitive-communication therapy. Continuing
education in the latest speech therapy research and methodologies.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary
healthcare teams. Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive speech
and language evaluations for patients in skilled nursing facilities
to identify communication and swallowing disorders. Develop and
implement individualized treatment plans based on patient
assessments and clinical best practices. Provide direct speech
therapy interventions to improve speech, language,
cognitive-communication, and swallowing abilities. Document patient
progress and update treatment plans accordingly while maintaining
compliance with regulatory and facility standards. Collaborate with
healthcare professionals and family members to ensure coordinated
care and support patient rehabilitation goals. Skills: The required
skills in Speech Language Pathology and Speech Therapy are
essential for conducting accurate patient assessments and
delivering effective therapeutic interventions on a daily basis.
Proficiency in working within Skilled Nursing Facilities enables
the therapist to understand the unique challenges and needs of
patients in post-acute care environments. Strong communication and
interpersonal skills facilitate collaboration with healthcare teams
and engagement with patients and their families. The ability to
document and track patient progress ensures treatment plans are
data-driven and outcomes-focused. Preferred skills such as
familiarity with electronic health records and specialized
certifications enhance the therapist’s capacity to provide
comprehensive, up-to-date care and contribute to continuous
professional development.
