As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer / Technical Specialist on the Motor Gearbox Engineering team, you will have design ownership of the next generation of Lucid's EV mechanical propulsion systems and components including motors, geartrains, lubrication systems and other structural, thermal, and rotational components. You will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with talented and passionate colleagues to design, prototype, test and launch these exciting products into production.

The Role:

  • Design and develop the next generation of EV mechanical propulsion systems, subsystems, and components, from concept to production.
  • Set detailed system and component specifications to meet high level functional requirements (performance, efficiency, durability, etc.)
  • Develop innovative design solutions based on a deep understanding of engineering fundamentals coupled with an awareness of industry practices
  • Create well-structured 3D CAD models utilizing both top-down and bottom-up practices as appropriate
  • Create clear and detailed 2D drawings and other necessary documentation to communicate design intent
  • Perform engineering analysis (CAE, etc.) to ensure alignment with specified and functional requirements
  • Thoughtfully apply tolerance analysis, GD&T and other techniques to ensure manufacturability, quality and performance
  • Work hands-on to prototype, test and refine hardware, equipment, and processes
  • Collaborate with Test and Reliability teams to develop and execute rigorous design and product validation test plans
  • Work closely with Supply Chain and SQA to source, industrialize and PPAP vendors
  • Support production launch and continuous improvement activities as needed
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of relevant design release experience in electric motors, geartrains, castings, thermal systems or other relevant products
  • Demonstrated track record of excellence and innovation yielding tangible results in one (or more) finished, manufactured product
  • Outstanding CAD skills - preferably CATIA V6/3DX
  • Extensive experience designing for various manufacturing processes, including (but not limited to) casting, machining, forging, gear cutting, injection molding and stamping
  • Excellent organization and project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive, ownership mindset and strong work ethic
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Collaborative, team player personality

Preferred:

  • Automotive powertrain experience - especially transmission and EV powertrain systems
  • Experience selecting and working directly with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Advanced CAD skills including advanced surfacing, generative design, and other techniques
  • Hands-on mechanical fabrication and prototyping skills
  • Previous direct involvement in product launch for mass production
  • Experience with DFMEA, 8D, DOE other structured evaluation and problem-solving methodologies

Education:

  • BS, minimum (MS, preferred) in mechanical engineering or a related field
