We are currently seeking engineers with experience in lithium-ion battery quality management to join the Cell Engineering Team. This role will be based in Newark, CA and will work closely with both R&D and manufacturing engineers to contain, manage and resolve lithium-ion battery related issues that arises in vehicle’s manufacturing process. A lot of hands-on effort can be expected. A successful candidate should have a good understanding in lithium-ion battery technology, with the ability to separate engineering intuition from assumptions and take a data driven approach to investigations and problem solving in an unbiased and impartial manner.  

The Role

  • Travel between and work in both Newark, CA headquarters and Casa Grande, AZ manufacturing facility (close to 50% travel). 
  • Be the onsite representative of Cell Engineering team in AZ facility and provide manufacturing team engineering support of battery cell related issues. 
  • Implement and overseeing incoming cell inspection in AZ facility and ensuring smooth process data flow between Cell Engineering team and cell suppliers. 
  • Ensuring information flow between stakeholders across multiple teams and from various levels such as technicians and manufacturing associates on the floor to R&D Engineers and Management at HQ.  
  • Develop software/hardware tools to help detect, analyze, present, and resolve battery cell related issues.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of lithium-ion battery chemistry and/or mechanical design and technology. 
  • Comfortable working in manufacturing environment and fluent in related protocols. 
  • Experience in lithium-ion battery related design, process, manufacturing, or functional FMEA. 
  • Demonstrated issue solving experience through root cause analysis and DOEs. 
  • Great technical project management and communication skills. Able to accurately summarize and report technical issues to cross functional teams. 

Preferred

  • Involved in full product development cycle of battery related product. 
  • Industry experience of integrating cylindrical lithium-ion batteries into large energy storage systems such as EV and ESS. 
  • Expert in the manufacturing process of cylindrical lithium-ion batteries.  

Education

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Chemistry, or Materials Engineering with 1-3 years battery and/or manufacturing experience.
