Our mission drives us, every moment of every day, to develop rapid groundbreaking solutions for the world s most complex health challenges.POSITION SUMMARY:The Electrical and Safety Engineer works in conjunction with the Automation Engineering team to design and develop automated assembly equipment for the high-volume production of diagnostic disposables. The engineer will lead the field labeling as well as CE certification activities, supporting Cepheid s expansion.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Guidance and enforcement of National and International (CE Conformity) electrical and machine safety standards to all new equipment designed for Cepheid
  • Specify all machine electrical/ safety scope of works for internal and contracted vendor resources
  • Responsible for all manufacturing equipment for successful passing third party inspections for Field Label or CE Inspections (NFPA 791, FEB or NRTL) as part of the system qualification (IOQ)
  • Create system LOTO per OSHA requirements for new manufacturing equipment
  • Perform Machine Safety Risk Assessments per industrial standards
  • Collaborate with EH&S
  • Standardize system level, power distribution, controls, fieldbus distribution and equipment safety, applied to all in-house new equipment
  • Electrical design, testing, commissioning of controls systems, control panels and associated equipment
  • Support and troubleshoot existing systems in production
  • Specify components and suppliers
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Support for system validation and installation TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Complete all assigned and required training satisfactorily and on time
    • Provide LOTO and QEW training to manufacturing technicians and engineersMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education and Experience (in years):
      • Bachelor s degree in field with 5+ years of related work experience OR
      • Master s degree in field with 3+ years of related work experience OR
      • Doctoral degree in field with 0-2 years of related work experience. Knowledge and skills:
        • Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU, Electromagnetic Compatibility 2014/30/EU and all applicable standards and supporting annexes
        • UL508A, B/ ANSI/ SEMI S2/ OSHA and all applicable codes and standards
        • Hands-on experience in design and development of PLC based control systems for use in factory automation
        • Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical troubleshooting in a high-volume automated manufacturing environmentPhysical requirements/abilities:
          • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must be able to stand for several hours. Must be able to work in Cleanroom environment.PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
            • BSc Electrical Design or equivalent and minimum of 5-year relevant electrical design experience
              • Agile PLM
              • AutoCAD Electrical (2019)
              • PLC Program Design and Development in a Rockwell environment
