About the Team
The emerging risk group is a multi-disciplinary group, which
develop models for pandemics, longevity, terrorism, casualty and
workers compensation, agriculture, liability, and business
interruption/supply chains. The team consist of modellers with a
variety of backgrounds including engineering, remote sensing,
meteorology, physics, crop science, statistical and actuarial
modelling.
The emerging risk group is part of RMS' model development team
boasting 100+ scientists, engineers and statisticians building
mathematical models that predict the distribution of losses due to
natural and man-made hazards covering earthquakes, hurricanes,
floods, convective storms, storm surges, tsunamis, terrorism, cyber
etc. The models built by the model development team, including the
emerging risk group form the foundation for a variety of RMS
products used in the industry for treaty pricing and underwriting
as well as for business risk evaluation. RMS is the pioneer in the
development and application of complex statistical and numerical
modelling methods for the quantification of natural and man-made
hazards.
RMS' risk models are the most detailed and comprehensive models of
natural catastrophes produced anywhere in the world. Our clients
include insurance and reinsurance companies as well as brokers,
banks, hedge funds, regional and local governments, and
multilateral agencies.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out research into novel methodologies being developed for
man-made or natural hazard projects
* Be agile and adapt to the changing needs of solutions
* Willingness to explore and learn new technologies, particularly
in data science and apply them to modelling
* Work with other modellers to execute and deliver solutions in
projects
* Presenting work internally and to clients in meetings
* Publish the work in conferences, journals and attend scientific
meetings to understand the latest science as well as raise the RMS
profile
Experience Required
* MSc or PhD in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
* Programming in Python, R or other scientific languages.
* Ability to clearly communicate verbal and written technical
information.
* Working in an interdisciplinary environment and projects and
integrating with other teams outside of modelling.
* Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Experience
* Understanding and experience with casualty modeling and workers
comp.
* 2+ years of experience working in catastrophe modelling.
* Knowledge of statistics and statistical modelling, data science
applications is a distinct plus.
* Working knowledge of GIS and SQL server applications would be a
bonus.
